Let me paint for you a quick pivot success story.
I just learned that TikTok started as an education app called Cicada. Apparently, it was supposed to be a platform for teachers to share quick video lessons. But it didn’t take off.
Then, the founders, Alex Zhu and Luyu Yang, saw teens on a train making lip-sync videos, and a lightbulb moment hit home. They pivoted to Musical.ly.
Musical.ly was later acquired by ByteDance in 2017 for $1 billion, and rebranded as TikTok.
Think about that!
From trying to help teachers explain things quickly to becoming the most downloaded app in the world!
It just goes to show you, sometimes the best ideas come from unexpected places.
