Are You Googling or ChatGPTing?

For decades, Google has been synonymous with searching for information.

But now there seems to be a trend where users are increasingly turning to AI chatbots like ChatGPT for answers.

With no doubt, search engines generally excel at listing resources, but users often face a deluge of links, ads, and conflicting information. Perusing through pages to find answers can be tedious, especially for complex queries.

The ‘Overview’ feature on Google is quite something, though.

AI tools like ChatGPT offer instant, conversational interactions. Instead of scrolling through results, users get summarized answers.

For example, asking, “Explain quantum computing simply,” yields a clear explanation instantly, bypassing the need to navigate multiple sites.

Also, AI chatbots remember context within a conversation, allowing follow-up questions without repetition.

Imagine planning a trip: after asking about Paris attractions, you can seamlessly inquire, “What’s the best time to visit?” Google personalizes results too, but AI’s real-time contextual awareness offers a more fluid, tailored experience.

My hot take, however, is that AI won’t eliminate search engines but will complement them.

Need quick answers? Ask ChatGPT.

Exploring diverse perspectives? Google remains invaluable.

And furthermore, most of the responses given more often than not are fetched from already existing data on the search engines. You must have noticed most of the AI chatbots now have the ‘search’ button down there.

I’m curious to know though, are you Googling or ChatGPTing?
